Milan, Venice or Rome?

by Janine
(Cape Town)

I plan on visiting Italy for the first time later this year and can't make up my mind. I only have a week's vacation and I want to visit two cities and I can't decide between Milan, Venice and Rome or should I maybe try to squeeze them all in?

It would be really really nice if you could help me make up my mind about this Maria!!

Maria's reply: Thank you for asking such an easy question!! Definitely don't try to squeeze in three cities in only a week. As to which city you should leave out the answer is very easy - Milan.

I really don't like Milan at all. If I had to put the cities on a scale of ten with Venice and Rome at ten, Milan would struggle to get two - It's that bad!!

Milan can be a great alternative

Actually, I strongly disagree. Milan is a home to Duomo, Last Supper, and other numerous places to see. It is also a perfect starting point for exploring around Lake Como and/or ancient Bergamo. Milan is impossible to compare to Rome. The truth is nothing is comparable to Rome...But Venice and Milan/Northern Lakes are totally different and would not even be comparable one to another. We visited both areas several times and, actually prefer Milan and the Lakes to Venice. Thank you.
