The Lake Garda Weather Guide

The weather around Lake Garda is a lot milder than most of the surrounding regions. The lake has a definite warming influence. Rainfall is all year round with most falling in March, April, October and November. July and January are probably the driest months.

Lake Garda Weather

When to Go

Not easy as it depends a lot on what you are looking for. The temperature does vary a bit with the north of the lake being windier and slightly colder.

These are our suggestions regarding the various months and the weather you can expect:

July and August

If you want long hot days spent lazing on a beach and swimming in warm balmy water then July is probably best but do expect crowds.

Early to mid August is much the same as July although late August can start getting rainy. Expect temperatures around 30°c and water at around 23°c

May, June and September

The best months to visit Lake Garda in my opinion. The weather is generally still warm enough to go to the beach but the water, particularly in May, can be too cold for swimming.

September and late June are fine for swimming if you don’t mind 20°c water. Remember that the water of the lake comes from the snow and ice melting on the surrounding mountains – dip a toe into the water in early May and you'll know what I mean.

During all these three months you can still enjoy long warm evenings, time on the beach and great sunshine without the hoards of tourists that you will encounter in July and August.

April and October

April and October are often wet and miserable. You might get a few decent days in between but generally you are looking at around 18°c and water at about 10°c.

Winter

Not many people visit during winter so you can have the lake to yourself. It does get cold but December, January and February have lovely crisp clear days. The scenery is really spectacular on these clear days and you can see for miles.

The Lake Garda weather is at its worst in November - wet and miserable – never visit in November unless you really have no choice. The only place more miserable in Veneto during November is Venice Italy.
